I pulled an 82 4WD diesel out of the weeds of a farmer. Sat fo 10 years. Got it running promptly. Now, a couple questions. Next to the fuse box, on top of the driver's fender well there is a space for 2 relays. What is this for? Is this for the flashers? If not, where is the flasher? Also, can anybody tell me why the wipers would work on ACC, and when the ignition is on, but won't run while the truck is running? Many thanks.

Sorry for not replying earlier, but I just noticed your post. I've seen these two relays mentioned, but I don't recall what they do. It's not the flashers, because they're under the dash, above and to the right of the steering column. I'm not sure about the wipers, but I've heard that LOTS of electrical anomalies are caused by a poor ground connection. That's where I'd start. I've had some weird wiper behavior that that seems to be caused by a bad connection to one of the wires coming off the "+" battery terminal.

Since I'm the only one replying to this, you may want to try your questions over at my Isuzu P'up forum as well. I'm not in competition, but just trying to help. I refer my members to this site, too.

Hey Joe, as you know about electrical prob's maybe you can help me. I was having an problem with some idiot lights coming on at low rpm's. Then the other day my battery was dead.

The battery was around 3 years old and I could not get it to take a recharge so I excanged it for a new one.

Everything seemed to be in order yesterday, then this morning my new battery is dead. I am charging it now.

I figure a short somewhere, but have no idea where to start and what to do when I find the offending circuit. Any ideas would be most aprreciated.

Thanks

dan, the 2 relays on top of the wheel well are (a)starter relay (b)charge relay. if your talking about the slots butted up against the fuses, then i know one is for your heater blower motor and i think the other has to be for air conditioning. (not sure, my truck has 2@55 air and my second slot is empty.) hope this helps.

Dan, in addition to what everyone else has said, the flashers are under the dash. The wiper problem sounds like the ignition switch. The wipers run off the ACC circuit (should be a blue wire) which should get power in the ACC position and the ON position. Sounds like you are not getting power in the ON position for some reason.

I actually have seen the same problem on a couple other trucks. For some reason the ignition switch ACC circuit overheats and stops working. Sometimes you can get it to work by turning the key slightly one way or the other while the truck is running. Then you'll know for sure it's the switch.
