Anybody try putting a turbo (aftermarket or even Impulse) on one of these motors? I read that these Isuzu diesels have oil squirters under the pistons (even the naturally aspirated) which makes them prime candidates for adding air. As long as the turbo/exhaust bolts up, it should be good.

Isuzu went to a turbo diesel in later models of the 2.2L diesel motor. I have never seen a 1.8L Imark motor, but it has a fair chance of having the same bolt pattern for the exhaust manifold as the 2.2L motor. Look for them in Isuzu pickups and Troopers, I forget the first year for the turbo, but 86 is the year they quit making diesel Troopers. 81 was the first year of the 2.2L motor as far as I know, but they were naturally aspiriated. The turbo motor added thicker/stronger rods but is otherwise the same.

This is just an idea that someone brought up to me when I was looking to add turbo to my 82. What if I were to put a high speed squirrel fan on the intake to give it some forced air.
Has anybody else thought of that or is it even worth the trouble?

Thoughts and comments are welcome.

Now that's an idea that I had bout' 2 yrs ago... we had these blowers in priciples of tech. class, pretty costly things... broke one but I fixed with a little epoxy. But If you had something simular with a higher amperage rating it might work... these were 12v but I don't remember the amps it drew....

maybe something like this

As far as matching a turbo to an engine, this site is helpful. http://www.turbofast.com.au/TFmatch.html They also have a calculator to download for FREE. It's called "TurboCalc." http://www.turbofast.com.au/freesoftware.html

In short, it takes a small turbo for engines with small airflow. A 2.2l diesel turning low RPM has a very small airflow compared to most turbo'd engines.

The more you understand about turbos (and superchargers for that matter), internal combustion engines, and airflow requirements the more you know that a fan blowing in the intake is a waste of time, money...ect. Snake oil. Junk. Ricer modd. Ect.

I feel so ashamed.....J/p

But it seemed like a good Idea at the time but would actually have to compress the air and would probably only help when at Idle speeds Ya know?
