Some one told me you could turn up the injectors to get more power but it would make it smoke. I would like to know if this is possible? If it is true how do you turn it up where is the adjustment located?

I was wanting to know how you turn it up because it seems severly underpowered. I put new glow plugs in it. Its still underpowered and the engine seems to shake like it has a skip but it doesnt sound like its skiping. I thought maybe turning up the injectors up might help. please let me know what I can do.Its a 1982 chevy luv 2.2l diesel with 400,000 miles on it.It doesnt use any oil but it does puff black smoke out if you get down on it a little bit. please help me with my problem.

i don't know anything about turnin' up the fuel pres. on a diesel, it would make it run much hotter... what you need is better air-flow, i put a jimmy-rigged ram air tube in mine and it's gotten maybe a little power but it doesn't smoke as much...(i do have a flow master so that helps some too)

About the black smoke... that's soot bud, mine does that w/ only 120k, the soot is just the sulfur in the diesel that's burned...

There is a screw at the back of the pump near the top, and it has a lock nut to keep it at it's setting. Turning this screw in will give it more fuel overall, but the power gains will be minimal, if your pump is running anywhere near properly.
There will be a bit more heat produced, but nothing dramatic. However, it WILL smoke more. A diesel smokes black because it isn't getting enough air for the fuel present. Or, said another way, too much fuel for the amount of air available. So by turning up the fuel, you are adding more fuel than the engine can efficiently burn, and not all the fuel is burned properly, and hence the soot. Turbo's add power because they force air into the engine (instead of a n/a engine, that draws it in) and therefore can burn more fuel. More fuel/air = more power.
Lastly, if you think all that soot is cool, remember you're not only wasting fuel, but some of that soot ends up in your oil, naturally getting by the rings as blow-by.
