I am having a fuel delivery problems on my 1981 Chevy Luv 2.2L Diesel 4x4.

The generator went bad after a weekend of extended driving at turnpike speeds, so I replaced with a used unit off of an early diesel trooper. I took it for a drive and ran fine. The next day it got down in the 20s and I did not drive it, but tried to start it but the glow plugs were not doing the job. I plugged it in over night fired right up next morning but all of the trouble lights (glow plug light, seat belt, battery) and seat belt buzzer did not come on. I drove it 5 miles to the Diesel station, shut it off filled it up, I went back to start it and would not start.

The fuel filter has been changed no luck. I am able to put fuel down the intake and it will pop off, but will not run. Even when the temp came up to the 50s it would not run by itself.

Here are some questions.
What drives the fuel pump? Belt, gears?
Does the fuel pump have any electronics?
What fuse operates the trouble lights, temp gauge, buzzer?
Can the timing have jumped, if so why?
Do I have a bad connection to cause the chain reaction? (alt, trouble lights gauges, and fuel pump)
What is the fuel p.s.i. on these trucks
Can the fuel pump be rebuilt if that is the problem
Am I dealing with a fuel problem or electrical problem?

Thanks in advance

hope this helps :)
IP pressure should be about 1493 p.s.i.
driven by the timing belt

sounds like a bad connection problem ......first is to get the dash lights back on....
start at the battery.....clean the terminals and charge the battery
then trace from the battery all the fuse links(check these with a ohm meter or test light) and wire connectors and clean the connections going to the glow plug relays then the wiring harness connectors to the glow plugs (check glow plugs for voltage when the switch is first turned on).....then check at the back of the injector pump for a electrical wire ....clean connection and test for current when the switch is on....then remove each fuse and check it, clean and replace....once the dash lights work the truck may crank as it should....if it does not, then reply back and we will go to the next steps in checking it out......

Woody, would you still have access to the diesel Trooper? How many good parts are still available on it? I am in need of a few parts for a diesel Trooper and I am interested. Thanks.
