Hi,
I posted a while back on a project I was researching- swapping a diesel into a gas 4X4. After tuning the 1.8L in the 4X4, I've decided to run it as is for a while. The gas engine is peppy, and I can keep up with traffic with the 4spd. If I swapped the diesel it would probably only be practical for around town or off-road use.
My daily driver is the '82 P'UP diesel 2WD. I'm thinking of lifting it so I can run taller 15" tires, it is a 5spd and it is decent on the highway, I can't pass anybody but she can maintain a steady 65-75 mph. I think running taller 235/15 tires instead of the 205/14's will give me a better top end on the highway, and better ground clearance for light off road use.
After doing a little research on the lift kits sold by JC Whitney, the MFR website recommends not to use the kit on diesels. Anyone know the reasons why? Is it a matter of enlarging the shifter and steering column holes? Or???
Would appreciate hearing from anyone thats done this job.
Thanks
