I just bought an 82 and drove it home. I was prolly going faster than I shouldve (65-75 mph), but didnt expect the mileage to be less than 30. where do I start to try to improve the mileage? Just got this thing, and the two owners were mechanics, so I have no reason to beleive it is neglected.

It does have very low gearing (its a 4x4), and tall tires to compensate a little for the gearing, but should mileage be this bad?

just to add, I did account for the difference in tire diameter, its about 8% off, and accounting for that and adding to the calculated mileage I was still in the mid-twenties.

You could check the seal on your injection pump or have the static timing checked as well too make sure everything is dead on before anything else
