I have just acquired a 82 LUV diesel from my father in law who just passed away. Don't know much about diesels but the glow plugs are not working and I've put new NGK glow plugs in so checked power to plugs and there is none. The wiring in the whole truck is jacked up. The heater ac fan will not come on the stereo has been taken out as well as all the wires for the radio. I can fix that problem but need to know more about how the glow plugs need to be wired. I do know the light for glow plugs comes on then goes off after ignition is turned on for a few seconds. Other then that idk. Truck runs very good once I plug it into a wall outlet to circulate and heat up water. I can drive it all day till I let it set overnight. It has 194000 miles on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most glow plug issues begin with a bad connection. Then the owners try to fix it and make things worse. Whatever you do, don't apply 12v to the plugs. Factory plugs were 5v. And don't use starter fluid. It can be used safely, but most people don't know how. It can damage heads and pistons. Your block heater is perfectly safe, they're great to have.

When cold, does your glow light come on? How long does it stay on?

Jack
