 Post subject: Stuck glow plug
PostPosted: Sun Dec 07, 2003 3:37 pm
OK, I changed 3 glow plugs (all dead) and the rear one tests dead also, BUT IT WON'T COME OUT! I can unscrew it and pull it out a mm or two, but that's it. If the end is mushroomed, how hard can I pull? Do I have to pull the head to fix this? Right now I'm just running it on 3 plugs, hotwired 'cause the controller died.

TIA

I also have encoutered a stuck glowplug. It has probably been in the engine since it was built. I had a tough time with one, so I kept spraying it with WD40 and continually unscrewing it. After about 5-10 minutes of this, I took a small crowbar and placed it behind the glowplug. I applied pressure behind the glowplug, while turning the glowplut with the appropriate socket and wratchet.

Also grasping the hex part of the plug with vise grips and pulling out while turning (with lube like WD40 as mentioned before) may work.
If it doesn't all come out, you likely will have to remove the head, unless you're lucky enough to see the remainder through a removed injector hole (don't forget to remove the heat shield too).
