Woody, actually for your LUV, since it's a 4-speed, I would keep the 4-speed instead of installing a 5-speed. This is the reason, the 5-speed transmission isn't as tough as the 4-speed they put in the 4x4's. I have a 1982 LUV diesel, and before I got the truck, it was my dads and he used it as a work truck. I still remember, the original 5-speed transmission blew at about 140,000 miles. Then he parked it for about 2 years. And when I asked him if I could have the truck, he said it needed a trans, so we were lucky to find a 5-speed trans to replace the one that blew. So far the trans has been great and no problems. But my dad just recently bought a 1981 LUV Mikado diesel 4x4 and it has the 4-speed. He told me that this trans is way better than the 5-speed. But if you are looking for an extra gear then I can understand. Just wanted to give you some info. Also, I know that LUVs are cable cluctch and my friend used to have a 1992 Chevy S10 that had a hydraulic clutch. What I didn't know was that an S10 diesel has a hydraulic cluctch, but has the same motor as what LUVs have, but the LUV has a cable cluctch. Wow! That is real cool. Oh yea and do you have any pictures of your S10 diesel?
