That is a fair price as long as the rust is not bad and the frame is clean. The diesels seem to bring in big numbers on resale

Agreed 100%.

Possible pluses/minuses:
  • Uncracked dash vs. cracked
  • Absence of rust vs. rust
  • Intact and working glow system vs. hacked-up non-stock pushbutton rigging
  • Stock intake system vs. rigged-up stuff
  • Starts easily vs. needs cranking, ether, starting fluid, etc.

The owner should be able to tell you when the timing belt was changed. If not, that's about a $350-$400 job or do it yourself in 4 hours. It could be a negotiating "chip".

The '84 has some slight improvements over the '83, so I'd pay just a shade more for it.

Jack

Thanks guys.

I bought my 95 6.5l for 3500 3yrs ago w/ 150k on it. It pays to gave a rig that gets decent mpg, can haul parts, and carry a fuel tank to the field (or pull the fuel wagon). I start a restoration on trucks at 300k if a farm truck can make it that long. So i have the 94 close to being mechanically done w/ frame painted after 4yrs of tinkering, sas, tranny rebuild, clutch, tease, waiting for a rear axle and new drivelines.

If the p'up can do the job to 300k then it will earn a spot in the books too. Any tips for holding one together that long?

The motors will go well over 300k if maintained well. If you keep the oil changed, and replace the timing belt every 60k or so, rust is your biggest enemy. Where are you located?

Jack has more info on the second gen Isuzu. As he said before this site welcomes all owners but most of us have the first gen and not much diesel here. You might want to browse his site, it would be more helpful for this, but again we will try to help any year LUV owner here.

I live in NW oklahoma. The soil is salty and that is my biggest issue. If it snows or gets muddy I have other trucks to drive.

http://tulsa.craigslist.org/pts/4013255432.html

Isnt this the model that can handle some boost and fit in an early Luv? I know I would probably want all the under hood stuff I can get, is the rear axle of any use?

The ad for the previous truck has expired, maybe it will get reposted.

Jack? What site is this?

I really dont have many issues with working on a diesel just learning what exactly it is and what others have already tried will be nice.

It can fit in a early LUV. No LUV from the first Gen came with a diesel but we have had a member do a swap. As far as what engine the turbo works with that again is a Jack question. I know it's a bit far away but we have a member in Ohio that needs a Chevette body.

As far as the site, look at Joe Isuzu's post and at the bottom is a link to it.

It's a 1.8L, which is a good engine and is probably a little easier to swap than the larger C223 2.23L engine used in the P'up. The rear axle is in a Chevette, and it's probably FOUR-lug. Not much use that I know of. You'd want the whole wiring harness including relays, fusible links, dropping resistor, and the "brain" of the system, where ever that is on a Chevette. You'd also want the filter head for the fuel system.

I hate to comment on other people's listings, but...I'd expect a little more for that price. It looks like a decent project truck, but it's priced a little high for a project.

Thanks. I consider our sites partners.

The black 80 looks like its a long bed. When looking at a early LUV look real close at the rocker panels for bad rust. If it is rusted out you would have to fab up a replacement, they can not be bought new and most have a hard time finding a donor as this is one of the first places to rust out on the trucks.

I think the price is high too. The dash says Mikado and Ive seen that posted around but never saw any mention of what it means.

I'm not too worried about LB vs SB but I would luv a 4x4.

I might buy the 1.8L for a later project and try to talk the guy down on the silver truck. I bet he has no clue as to any work done on the engine and its need for body work could kill a guy.
