I just got a 81 with the Diesel and am trying to replace the Sensor. The boys at Auto Zone tell me that my truck doesn't have a sensor even though we look at it and see two sensors coming out of the Thermostat housing. What are these? One has one wire and the other has two wires. Since the sensor in the computer they do show for another model is 6 bucks I thought of replacing that first before trying to do the gauge........any suggestions? Any idea what the two wire sensor is?

Bryan

I always get these two confused. I'm pretty certain the 1-wire sensor is for the glow system, and the 2-wire sensor is for the fast idle system. They are available from Isuzu, but the price will give you sticker shock. Something like $75 per sensor. Quite a few of us have successfully repaired them after wires broke off. There's at least one post with photos and instructions at IsuzuPup.com.
