have a 82 diesel luv when i plug in the block heater overnight or at least 6-8 hours the truck will start fine if i dont plug in the block heater it will not start no matter what the temp is. the Glow Plug Light in the instrument panel use to light up and get brighter for a sec or two then kinda make a click sound and the truck would start now the light just lights up and then goes off after a few sec. Any Thoughts?

on the passenger hand side of the engine compartment kinda near the firewall there are two relays that are together you want to make sure they are working.....also if you have a battery charger that does six volt you can test the glow plugs......also if you have a voltage tester test to see if there is voltage to glow plugs........or right by the battery compartment there is a ballist resistor that drops down the voltage from 12 volts to six if that is bad no glow plugs....when you find the resistor you can do a continuity test to see if its good.....hope this helps

ive checked and replaced both relays on pass side so i say there ok i can hear them click when the key is turned also there is a black box in the drivers side interior side wall that clicks i assume this is the controller i remember it pausing about 3 to 4 sec after the key was turned before it would click now clicks as soon as the key is turned. there are 3 wires to the glow plugs a heavy gauge black with yellow stripe and one green and one red wire test for voltage on which one and while the key is being cranked or just being turned on? ok i gonna get flammed but i understand how electronic igitions work but are glow plugs just for starting the vechile and have no effect after started or due they continue to "glow" while running. TIA im goning to look for the ballist now thanks again

You want to test for voltage on the black and yellow striped wire.....Test while the key is just on but there should only be voltage for a few seconds when it is first turned on......also you can test while it is being cranked as well......The box on the driver side panel is the controller for the glow plugs.....Glow plugs are just for starting the vehicle.......The ballist resister should be a little box right by the battery compartment......Let me know if you need anything else

I have had a least 5 (2.2 Isuzu Diesel motors) and at least 4 of them had a problem with the glow plugs. The glow plugs were not working when I bought the truck or they stopped after I got the truck.

The solution for me has worked in every truck that I have tried. I feel that the wiring sections are breaking down because of age and carrying the voltage from the battery to the glowplugs. The remedy is simply replacing the sections of wire that lead off of the positive terminal to your battery.

There are 2 wires that lead off of the positive terminal of the battey. Each wire is made up of sections. I simply cut out a 6 to 8 inch section out of each of these wires and spliced a slightly heavier guage wire in its place.
Be sure that the connection is solid on both ends and tape heavily.

The glowplugs have started lighting up in each case that I have tried.
Every truck started even in below freezing weather and without plugging up.
