Diesel Brake Questions ?????

My vac pump is pulling about 26-27 " HG (idle) and will hold a vacuum when I turn off the engine---so I'm assuming there are no system leaks.

..... I'm curious if the Vac Brake System is really functioning as designed

..Vac drops of to about 23 or so when apply the brakes then climbs back to the 26-27 mark ?????

Is this the way it is supposed to operate??? Nothing in the Shop Manual

Thanks for any insight

sounds like good numbers to me.

the light on the dash that comes on with the parking brake lever,
also comes on if VAC is to low, or if brake fluid is low.

i have one isuzu powerd auto.
that has a bad VAC unet that turns the light on if i push the peddle 1 time real fast.
the brakes work fine its just more effort on my part, if i pump them.

where as my DD i can push it 5/6 times real fast, and it only comes on for a split second.

this is all with the engine at idel around 750ish rpms

Thanks for the reply.

I did some research and the valve is called the Brake fail indicator switch mounted on the proportioning valve under the hood near the master cylinder.

I never saw it function all the while i had my brake system open and bleeding it .

The wire diagram clearly shows that it will function as you described.

Thanks !!!!
