I just picked up a 82 diesel 4-by and the body is looking REAL bad.

I have a nice, straight 80 4x4 gas truck (and a ok 79 and an ugly 79 and...).

Just a quick look underneath says that all is not the same. Is it possible to do this swap without custom driveshafts?

thanks LL

The only difference between the 80 gas truck and 82 will be the engine mounts, all driveshafts will be the same.

It does have a license plate so technically it is a street truck, that sets off car alarms and makes kids cry. lol

That should make a nice swap. You won't need to swap fuel tanks, but you will need to run a fuel return line back to the tank. Also, you will need to make sure your fuel cap (or the filler itself) is vented. It must be able to let air INTO the tank.

Move as much of the electrical system as you can. The factory glow system is really good as long as the connections don't get corroded. Some others here have already done this same swap.

I did a similar swap into a '75 and I had to shorten the driveline. In '81, the wheelbase was lengthened 2 or three inches.

I also had to fabricate motor mounts but I've been told the mounts from '76-'80 match your donor.

Here's the link to my swap if you want some details.

I totally agree with JoeIsuzu. Take the entire wiring harness with you. You'll have to drill a couple holes in the firewall but it'll fit. And now I have dual windshield washer bottles. :-)

Best of luck,
Eric Q.
