1981 LUV 4 wheel drive diesel…196000.0 miles. Rear Seal Leaking and Possible Fix.

I had truck in shop to replace rear engine seal. The crank was grooved and the shop could not locate a “ speedy sleeve” for repair.

My solution…..I used a circle cutter to cut a ring (about 41/2 “) out of .050 Aluminum sheet, to go behind the seal lip to allow the sealing surface (of the new seal)to move a little aft.

Seems to be working pretty good. Still leaks some but not as much.

A few years back I had a machine shop make a sleeve for the front seal (crank gear). It also leaks some.

So… hope this helps someone.
