Hi,
I just purchased two Chevy Luvs. One,a 1982 Mikado(wrecked) with the diesel in it,and the other a 1981 gasser. How difficult is it to swap out the gasser and put in one of those remarkable little diesels?
Also, I think I may have to rebuild the diesel first. Is there a good place to talk to about that?
Thanks,

having a complete doner auto is a major plus.
does the engine run when its still in the doner truck.
are bolth trucks 4x4 or 4x2? if not, at the least your doing a bell-housing swap on the two transes you have,
worst case your finding a new diesel bell-housing not fun............at all.

the diesel fuel systom from the factoy has no fuel pump in tank, only the injector pump has a small charge pump.
if your going to run any BIO fuel, (of any type) a extra pump will be needed for getting the thiker fuel to the engine.

both trucks have the same cluch set up, so your not going to need to do a cabel to hyd cluch swap.

factory specs say commpresson under 390psi is rebiled time. there a 21 to 1 compresson engine.
they can run so so well down to around 370psi
thell run at lower psi but mpg heads south fast and starting ability my need  ether  ."its not if,.... its when with ether"

the RAD for the diesels has the out lets on the oppset side as a gaser so dont toss it :!: you cant buy them only recore :!:

the diesel engine mounts should swap in no trubble (if needed) sence bolth trucks where sold as gas or diesel.

a good running 4x2 s\b diesel with the "normal" 3.73 rear and 5 speed (not the 3.42 4 speed) will get mid high 30s mixed driving.
the 3.42 can get low 40s with no cargo.
with no issues, other than being slow compared to other traffic.
for more diesel info\trubble shoting, go to isuzupup.com

HO and have fun :ebiggrin

Unfortunately, the diesel engine may be frozen up. It only has 80k on the odometer, but was left out side with the hood off for 7 years.
Has anyone ever salvaged a diesel after that long of not running and being in the weather?
If not, I may be parting out the diesel truck and start driving the gasser. At least it runs :-)
Oh yea. Do you think the 5 speed from the diesel would work in the gasser? It's a 4 speed now.

with the hood on, 15 years is the longest ive heard of with no start 8O

sence the diesel has the starter on the oppest side you must change the bell housing.

if there bolth 4x2 trucks you can swap the frunt of the trans, ((if your lucky)).
this is the part with the starter mount.
not all 4 speed bells swap with the 5 speeds. :(
