Hey everyone its finally done. My '80 LUV 2wd is completely converted over from gas to diesel with the help of two doner pickups. It runs excellently, fires up every time, and rolls coal just like I wanted it to. I must say first though that I didn't complete the whole project on my own. The following people who helped complete the conversion are as follows, Gary Simon for providing me with a shop in which to work in (aka Fast and Furious Performance), J.B. Perrier and Eric Simon for helping me with the initial installation of the engine and trans, my own brother Patrick Smith for wiring the diesel harness into the original gasser wiring harness and getting the glow plugs to properly operate, and Chris "Spanky" Bosely for helping with the welding of the support brace for the fuel filter. Without the help of these people my pickup would still be in pieces and not in a well running condition to this day. Now for the fuel economy of the diesel, I am still running on the same tank of diesel that I put into the pickup a week and a half ago, and I estimate that I will see on some occasions 44-45 mpg in the city. Now if someone could correct me if I am wrong, but I do belive that I am now the soul owner of a 1980 2wd chevy LUV diesel in the Las Vegas NV area and possible the whole state of Nevada. But anyhow I just wanted to let everyone know that it is complete and let the ones that help me along the way be recognized for their contributions and efforts.

no i bought two isuzu pups from amargosa valley NV. one was a 2wd and the other was a 4wd both diesel. but i used parts from both to convert my 1980 to a diesel. to bad that someone got to that diesel before you did that would be an excellent buy.

Halo I am interested in the 4x4 oil pan, and oil pump out of the 4x4 diesel, if you are going to sell anything off the truck. I can trade you a good 2 wheel drive pan for it or buy it outright. I am trying to convert an 86 4x4 pup with a blown 2.3 eng to a diesel, and need a 4x4 oil pan and pump. Let me know something. johnp

sorry man i fit the whole engine out of the 4wd into my 2wd. it was kinda a tight fit for the engine cause of the oil pan but it works. but i'll let you know if i come across another diesel out of a 4wd if that'll help. it's pretty hard to find them though, but like i said i keep an eye out for one.

You might want to figure out the weight of that Cummins with accessories (starter, alt, etc) before you shoe-horn that baby in there. I think you'll find it's a LOT heavier than the stock engine in the truck now. Heavier springs, tires, harder on brakes, etc. Just something to consider.
