Well, my opinion is, if I had the opportunity to buy this truck at the price you said, I would buy it just for parts, if no other reason.
Another possibility would be to take it apart and sell parts on ebay. I am sure you would make a profit on this truck. In response to your question, I am not sure I would risk spending the money to have the block checked for cracks.
It makes sense though, those blocks should be fairly easy to find. From what I understand, the Isuzu block was used for several years in the little postal jeeps. There are severaly of those things left around.

I think I spoke with the seller of that truck right after it listed on craigslist. I think it's the same one. I was trying to understand how he diagnosed it as a cracked block. He said that it was not blowing steam out the tailpipe, but coolant was leaking out. He said it did not seem to be coming from the water pump area. He didn't see signs of coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant. He hasn't done a lot of troubleshooting on it.

Anyway, the motors turn up occasionally on eBay and at on the Isuzu P'up forum.

It is quite possible that a freeze plug could be the culprit. I suggest taking the thermostat out and doing a good pressure test on the engine. It may be you need to put some cardboard under the truck and leave the pressure, as much as you can get pumped, 20 lbs or so, and let it sit overnight. If there is a leak, it will show up on cardboard.

where might i find this truck? I am in need of a daily driver rather than having to rely on some one picking me up and dropping me off from work.
