hi folks, I'm new to this site and I just picked up a nice running 79 diesel 4X4 with a very bad body and frame. I am looking for a donor truck, and am wondering what years I can use to match up to my four wheel drive diesel -- how about a S10, or an Isuzu . Any information or leads on parts would be most appreciated . John South Dakota

Factory diesels were only 81 & 82. So if your truck is truley a 79, the eng. was swaped.
If it's a 79 and looks like the one in my avatar, you can use a LUV cab from 72-80.
If it's an 81-82, you can use a LUV cab 81-82 or Isuzu pup cab 81-??. (some else can help me out here.)
If it is an 81-82, you might also check out http://www.isuzupup.com For a cab. Good luck.

I once saw a Chevy Vega body retrofitted to a Luv chassis.

Not just diesel Chevette's (with an 52hp OHC Isuzu diesel), but in Canada, we had (some I can remember seeing):

Diesel: Acadian (same as Chevette), Ford Escort/Lynx, Tempo/Topaz, Buick Century (V6 diesel!), Audi 100, Olds Somethingorother, and diesel VW Vanagon. Prolly more, I just can't remember any at the moment.
Of course there was the usual diesel VW Jetta's, Golf's, Caddy's, and Rabbits; also a smattering of diesel Mercedes, as is found almost everywhere in the world.

I remember asking a guy about his diesel Acadian w/auto. I said to him that it must be VERY slow, and he said it really wasn't that bad. Years later, now I own a diesel S10 ext cab, and really...it isn't THAT bad. 8)
