I got a 2.2 diesel and it seems to make a slight grinding noise when I'm in gear with the clutch fully engaged, especially 2nd. Any suggestions? I replaced the clutch a couple years back and have not driven it much. Could it be a pilot bearing?

How many miles does it have? The tranny is the weak link on this truck.

It only has about 80K on the tranny and maybe 10 to 15K with the new clutch. I know it leaks a little and I had heard they were weak transmisions so I put in a little thicker oil when I did the clutch. I could see that the teeth on the clutch plate were not quite centered on the flywheel when installed but it has operated fine since it was installed. So I figure a pilot or throwout bearing.

Be careful, or you'll end up with this

Also, you should run 5w30 oil in it.

8O Thicker oil is one of the things that will shorten the life of these transmissions. What did you use?

If the throwout bearing goes bad and makes noise, it's usually when the clutch is IN, not out.

Well she finaly went.

I lost 5th on the feeway the other day. After I checked her out there was no 5th or reverse and 2nd + 3rd were pretty bad once engaged. So she's gettin all disassembled and I'm building a custom trans for the motor swap. Thanks for all your help and remeber, don't run thicker fluid in these trannies.
