Any one know what kind of gas mileage I can expect from a 1981 DiesePUP 4 x 4 with a 4 speed tranny?

Is this a pretty durable transmission?

Thanks

Someone else here can give a more experienced answer for you, I'm sure.

I have never driven a diesel LUV. I know the trans. are good. They are strong if your keeping the diesel.
The diesel's, I think, get up around 35 MPG or better. But they are very guttless. Only around 65 horsepower I think. But they run forever.

Like I said someone else here, will pipe in that owns one and will give better numbers I'm sure.

I did expect gutless! I owned a gas LUV over 25 years ago, and I have always wanted another one. I am going to use the diesel to commute back and forth to work. Thanks for the comment. I'm really enjoying this site, and looking forward to going through my new truck and finding the quirks and tics!

I'd guess more like 30 with the 4wd/4-speed.

I've had an '81, 4x4 since new. Mileage has always been between 29-31, no matter how hard I drove it even with a full load.

Put street tires on it. The knobbies will wear out fast.

It runs the interstate OK as long as it is "wound up".--80 HP

Only if it's turbo. Otherwise, it's 58-62 hp stock, depending on the year.
