Exactly why I bought mine! I can deal with finding a transmission when the truck cost only a couple hundred dollars.

If you have to replace the transmission, you should consider using a later-model Isuzu transmission from a 2.3 gasser. Gear ratios are different (higher) but the transmission is much stronger. The 5-speed was the weak link on the P'up (2nd-gen LUV).

If you want an original transmission, there's a guy on IsuzuPup.com ("autozoom") who may have them.

The problem, what gear is this? Like 3rd or 4th? I've got a Shop Manual but it's Series 10 (As it was for my 4x4 1980)

JoeISUZU, I've been reading up on the swap over at isuzupup.com and that is what I will most likely do unless I can find a set of gears or something locally. Which I highly doubt, but nonetheless can wish for.

Great website!

I've got some spare wires hangin out in the engine compartment and don't know what they are yet as my Series 11 manual hasn't arrived. Not really in a rush to get it back together as I don't even have a working transmission, but what are these wires? TIA!

near the battery looks to be your main power for your glow plugs

Those green wires by your air horns are the power wires for the stock horn(s) and one for a relay for extra horn(s)

the wire near your battery with the blue wire is for your glow system, put an extra length (of the same gauge wire) of wire on the end of that and connect it to your battery.

This conversion of the trans you speak of i believe is with the internals and backside of a 2.3 gas 5spd and the bell housing of your diesel trans, don't quote me on this though, more info on that swap can be found on Isuzupup.com. The gearing is the same except for the 5th gear, which is higher.

the gear i think that's stripped is 1st...

Thanks everone for the help. I stripped the glow plug wiring down and stuck it underneath the battery terminal clamp with the positive cable.

Also figured out why the starter wasn't engaging the flywhee. Not that I needed to start the truck w/o any transmission bolted in... but now I know why it was just free wheelin.

:)

Also found out my lights all work, but I had a couple burned out bulbs. My 1980 had a ton of electrical problems.

So what gear is that that's stripped? Just curious...
