Post subject: POOR MPG no smoke
PostPosted: Mon Feb 20, 2006 11:51 am
I have the engine and tranny from my 2wd luv in a 90 isuzu and it's only getting about 24-25 mpg. The gearing is only about 5% off of what is should be from the factory though so i don't think thats it. It has a good intake system on it so that isn't any of the problem. It doesn't really smoke alot just bearly noticable, and the power isn't to bad( no lower than 60 on interstate, and cruises around at 55-60 with no troubles. any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. Have you checked your injectors? I haven't gotten around to it yet, but that's my best guess.

Yes, your injectors may not be spraying right into the cylinder depending on the mileage you have on the truck. If the spray pattern is different and they are well worn you could see a fuel mileage increase of at least 2 mpg after you have all four rebuilt. You may want to look into it, but not for sure depending on the mileage of the engine/vehicle.

Sorry 90pupdiesel, but I was talking to Bondo in my last post because I don't know the mileage he has on his truck. My bad, I should have stated that. Since you only have 80,000 miles and say you're getting 32 mpg then I would think you are getting pretty good fuel mileage for a 4WD application. That is actually right around the exact fuel mileage Isuzu estimated the 81 LUV 4x4 to get back when it came out new. And with your low mileage powerplant I wouldn't worry about getting your fuel injectors rebuilt as they are probably good for at least another 70,000 miles on top of what you already have.
