Post subject: New here, Valve job Q?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 16, 2006 9:36 pm
Hello, I am new to the forum.

I have a 1984 isuzu Pup with the 2.2 diesel.

How much would a valve job average for this truck?

It runs but sounds like it dropped a cylinder or something, it has a loud popping coming from the intake manifold.

Hi Photog,

It's difficult for any machine shop to quote an exact price for a valve job because there are so many variables involved. The ultimate price you pay will depend on the condition of the head, the parts replaced, and any additional repairs or work that may be necessary. It sounds like it is more than a burned intake valve though.

Pull the head and get a machine shop that specializes in valve jobs to take a looksy and give you an estimate.

You may not need a valve job take the valve cover off look for a broken rocker arm It will be an exhaust rocker if it dosen't open the exhaust gose out the intake when the intake valve opens. I have seen this happen when timing belts break (might want to ckeck belt to). If you don't see a broke rocker arm look at the valve springs if an intake valve spring is broken it will pop out the intake. Both of these can be fixed with out taking the head off. ........................... Dog

You can also get the pop if the head gasket is burned out between two cylinders. I dont know if the C223 does this.

If lifting the valve cover shows you nothing, you might need to borrow the gear needed to do a compression test. You remove the injector and screw in a special fitting for the compression tester to connect too.
