Has anyone ever wired up a tachometer to a alternator? One of my friends at school got his dad to do it to his chevy blazer and it worked fine, but he doesn't know how to wire it to the alt.

Would I be able to hook up a tachometer to my alternator or does anyone on here know how to do it???

(imagines his luv with a tach. in the window  )

Hmmm, sounds like something you would see on a diesel.

so about the Auto meter tach. on the link you gave me I looked it up and it doesn't say anything about a strap so is that a separate thing or does it some with it?

For the AutoMeter diesel tachometer an inductive pickup wire is connected to the back of the alternator. I'm not sure what terminal you would connect the wire to, but obviously the wire runs from a terminal off the back of the alternator to the tachometer. The diesel tachometer is AutoMeter tach #2888. I would think it's pretty simple to install one of these tachs and all accessories/instructions do come with the tachometer I am sure. Here is a link from the AutoMeter website for the instructions on the #2888 tachometer: http://hp.autometer.com/instructions/00 ... uction.pdf
