to have your car stolen.
My roommate had her 94 integra 4 door stolen from our driveway thursday morning. I went out and started it for her to warm it up, walked into our house and grabbed my coat and walked out the back door to go into my garage to start the luv up. By the time I got to the garage, less than thirty seconds after starting her car, it was gone. Which that creeps me out cause that means someone was watching me. I'm already a paranoid dude and I usually don't miss things that are different, so this one really got to me.

So anyways, a couple friends saw the car friday at fred meyer, but being girls they didn't really know what to do so they called the police. While the police were casually taking their time to get there two men came out of fred meyer and got in the car and left. It was all caught on fred meyer's video cameras. Late friday night/saturday morning I guess the thieves were driving the car around and eventually ditched the car and stole another one.
Saturday morning we get a call from the police saying that they have the car. My roommate is out of town for the weekend so I went down to the impound and took a peek through the fence. The car is the same as it was before except for the missing 6x9s in the rear deck. I couldn't see the console but I'm sure the cd player is missing too. I spent an hour forcing a huge subwoofer box into the trunk last year (had to take everything apart to get it in there), and then I screwed it down and mounted the amp underneath the box. So I'm very curious to see if the amp and subs are still in there, I'll find out tomorrow.
I guess the thieves stole the car, switched the plates on it, and had been driving it around like they owned it. It fooled the police lol.
I thought for sure the car would be stripped within hours of them stealing it and then lit on fire to hide prints, but I guess they had other plans for it.
So anyways, just be careful. We just moved to this house 10 days ago, we moved here cause it's a nice quiet residentual area on the better side of town. I guess it's not really safe anywhere, so just watch your things, you think it will never happen to you, but it does.

Wow. Sorry dude. Yea you gotta watch out in the better 'hoods also, because the thieves know that's where the good stuff is. That is weird though. They must have been near by waiting for any neighbor to do what you did.

Thats just the reason we here in ventura county have a law about leaving a car running to warm. The police go around handing out tickets for that every morning, and since that started would you believe auto thefts went down 40%.

Yeah, they have that here except for it's only against the law to leave your car running on the street, on your own property you can do whatever you want. So it running in my driveway is legal, but turned out to be a big mistake.

The guys that ditched the car still have the keys (to the car, our house, and garage, but we changed all our locks) so I'm afraid they might be back for the car. So the integra gets parked in the garage from now on until we can sell it.

yeah, that has been in the back of my mind since it was stolen. I've also ran through many different ways that that morning could have turned out if I would have seen them.
