Good Luck and Thanks to all you guys coming down here and helping out.

We have a lot of displaced people here in Meridian which is like 150 miles inland. They need all the help they can get. God Bless.

I wish I was in a better position to be of some help like that. My area has been blessed to be spared anything even approaching that scale for decades. Even the Columbus day storm of the 60s is barely a puff of wind in comparison. Good luck to anyone down there, helpers and survivors.

I think I'll head into town and donate blood. Its not much but its something that most of us can do, and it helps even when there isn't a tragedy.

Larphead: Stay safe down there. I'll buy you a beer on your way up if you holler at me in time...

Mississippi Luv: I go to Meridian from time to time. It was a mess up there, but I know we're both happy we weren't further south.

I'd hate to even see with my own eyes how bad it must be on the MS coast and in LA. It was bad enough here - I know a lot of people around here, including my mother and grandmother, who still don't have power. Other places around here still don't have water or phone service, and this is a week and a half after it hit. It gets tough in MS in late August/early September with no air conditioning, as I'm sure you know.

We were lucky. We only went without power for about 3 days and without water for 1. One thing I can say: We ate well. All our freezers had no power and everything starting thawing, so we got our family together and cooked everything that we could as it started thawing. I had nothing but meat and bread for several days. We still lost a lot of it.
