well i realy liked my trooper, i regret vary much selling it for the K-5 i have now. One thing to remeber, steer clear of the early 3.5Ls. They have oil consomption issues that arent too freindly. The easiest way to identfy the oil buring 3.5L from the second gen good 3.5Ls is the thread in PCV, if it has one of those it should be good to go. Te 3.2Ls are realy good and dont have any issues but are down on power so you wont be racing anybody.

I'm more of a fan of the First Gen Troopers (up to 91) They look more rugged even sitting bone stock. 2nd Gens do look good once you have some lift, maybe a bumper or roof rack, and some mean looking tires on them though. It just seems like they scream soccer mom until you dump some money into upgrades.

If it were me, I'd like a 91 4 door with the 84-86 round light grill, V6/5 Spd, and upgraded motor to a 3.4L. I'm not unhappy with the 86 2 door I have now though.

Ditto to MEPR's bit on the 3.5L motor. Both versions have their oil burning issues, but the later ones are much better about it. You can bring either of them back somewhat if they have the right oil burning issues though. The oil rings on the pistons have some oil ports on then that can get clogged up, preventing oil from getting back down. Add some Seafoam to the oil, run it for a while (like a hour or less, very light driving or idling), then drain the oil and change the filter. The Seafoam will break loose the crud and get it out of there. Then the recommended oil is I think 0W-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic for helping to keep it from coming back. I'd change the oil/filter fairly soon again after the Seafoam flush though, not everthing drains out of the pan and you'll still have some grunge to get out. The other thing to do is clean the EGR valve. I think the oil burning starts a chain reaction, clogs the EGR with oil soot, which makes cylinder temps higher, which helps it burn more oil, etc etc.

SO far I'm really liking the '94-'96 Troopers, they still had the 3.2 but the newer interior  , thanks for the tid bit on the early 3.5's I did not know that about them. I did know that Isuzu V6's in general burn a little oil, but hey my parent's '88 does that too!!! :D truth be told I like the body styling of the 1st gens but I want something a bit newer and with a bit more power. Oh if I do indeed get a '94-'96 like I want to, I'm going to try to get and LS with the 5-speed, man I love that tranny. and soon after I but the Trooper and have some cash saved up I'm going to be making a call to either Matt at Indy 4x or Joe over at Darlington Offroad!!!!! 6" of lift and 33's when i'm done!!!!!!! of course then I'm gona need some 5.38's to even get around  ah well thats guys for the info, now it's just a matter of time and money

oh by the way what the heck is Seafoam????????????? I keep hearing about the stuff over on the Planet.

Check them out at http://www.seafoamsales.com/

It is an engine cleaner. It can be found in a lot of parts stores like Napa, Carquest, etc. For 3.2/3.5L treatment puposes you want to get it in the liquid form(aka Motor treatment) , not the spray can (aka 'Deep Creep'). You add some before an oil change, run the motor for a while light duty(drive nice and easy 10-30 miles or idle it for a good long bit), and then drain oil/change filter. It loosens and cleans out build up inside the engine and which helps cure much of the Isuzu V6 oil burning problems.

I also like Seafoam Deep Creep for use as a carb cleaner/carbon cleaner. It works better and seems to last longer than just plain old carb cleaners. With my personal experience and all the good results I've read about I'd say Seafoam is one product that is not useless snake oil like so many of the things out there.
