So a friend came by and offered me his 74 or so [forgot to ask exact year] but mid 70s chevy half ton 4x4. He said the motor died, and he doesnt know what happend. So basically I figure gonna have to get another motor. He said he will take $200 for it. What do you think I should do. Truck looks pretty straight. Paint is primer gray, but he said all the 4x4 stuff works. I will get some pics up soon, and I am sure I will have some question later as well.

certainly,

If you decide you didn't want it, you could part it out and make a couple bucks. If it's a 75 or older, the cab and title are worth a couple hundred alone to someone in CA.

you could probably get $150 for the front axle(if its a 74 it should be a dana 44), $150 for the transfer case(i'm guessing np205) and $150-200 for the tranny

well got it home, and seems to be in descent shape. The guy I got it from even gave me his tool box. Seems he bought a new Durango, and seems to think he will never need a tool again  Didn't hurt me none when he said " figured you could use them" :!: It has a tool box in the back with locks that actually work! Opened it up, and there is even a Edelbroch streetmaster intake in there. Looks like new. So I havnt messed with the motor yet, but will let you guys know how it goes

well, tore it apart over my vacation, and just turned out to be the driver side head gasket!!!!! New gaskets, and an oil change and rooom, rooom!!! She goes right on down the road. I found out a little info on the motor, cuz when I tore the heads off, the piston tops looked like new, and the heads were in great shape. The kid I bought the truck from said his dad had just bought the motor a couple 3 years ago from Schucks. It was their display motor. He said that his dad drove the truck back and forth from work, which was about a 15 mile round trip, and his dad doesn't think the motor even has 40,000. So over all seems like a good deal for $260.00
