so the reverse clutches on my Subaru are burned out, I have a guy in VA willing to give me the good one taking up space in his garage if I can cover shipping to get it here. trying to figure out what the best method of shipping a tranny would be either on a pallet and sent via freight or what have any of you guys used for something similar?

anybody? the trans is about 235lbs so shipping is going to be $$$ no matter how I do it just trying to figure out the best way. im not in a huge hurry to get it here pushing the car out of a parking spot isn't too hard to do so cheap and slow would be fine

Ltl carrier would probably be the easiest. If he'll take it to the terminal in VA and you pick it up at the terminal in WA it'd save you a bunch.

Estes Express Lines is based out of Virginia. Others you can check out are fedex freight, ups freight, saia, conway, and forward air freight. It's better to call and get a quote. Sometimes that'll save you money vs the online quote.

that would probably be my best option doing ltl terminal to terminal, greyhound has a weight limit well below 235lbs
I know I work within a mile of estes, Conway, ups, fedex and a few other carrier terminals, I did an online quote and it was over $1000 with them doing pickup and drop off there is no way im going that so terminal to terminal seems like my best choice will have to call around

R&L delivered my two fiberglass hoods from California to my door for under two hundred. Not weighy but bulky...

i sent a isuzu 2wd trans "or most of one" USPS LOL
it was a diesel up-grade trans and he did'ent need the gas housing on the front any way
went about 600 miles and was about $90
there about 80lbs with no oil and front housing.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS WITH A GAS TANK, JUST A DIESEL ONE..thats been open for a long time.
guy back east that wanted a S\B diesel tank....lol
first box i took was about 6" over the over size limit and UPS said something like $150+ please..... 8O
went to USPS and they still wanted about $130.....
being that i was only getting $50 for the thing it was time for plan B................... :eugeek

i more or less made a custom sized box that the tank barely slipped in, and it was about $35.00 to ship around 2,500 miles to road salt country.
since it had been open to air for 2 years or so it did'ent even smell of fuel.

but for a trans over 200lbs yea LTL is going to be the best bang..

im looking at getting my JDM 4JB1-T diesel shipped from the east to out west. its about 700lbs including the MUA trans, there quoting about $600

got a tale gate one time through LTL freight shipping thought it was super odd, tell i saw the box it came in, it was ginormous. so even though it was maybe 60lbs the super jumbo size of the box let them LTL it at a discount...
