Available with a 4cyl or V6 gasser for 2015. 4cyl turbo diesel (mini Duramax) available for 2016.
I'm probably going to get a diesel late next year, when they come out.
They are claiming 48mpg highway! If it is zippy enough for me, to be happy, it will replace my mini van as the dog hauler,(I'll put a shell on it) and become my commute vehicle so my F250 lasts longer. I don't want to have to spend 70k to replace the big pick up. I'd rather keep the one I have and only use it when it's needed.
What do you think about the looks and numbers they are claiming?

I don't "love" the looks of it, but compared to the way all the new trucks look these days, I don't think it's ugly.

Nice truck. I would take the 2WD crew cab long box Z71 with a diesel.

Y'all realize this "Duramax" (if it ever comes to the US market) is not the GM-Isuzu joint venture that brought the original Duramax. GM teamed up with VM Motori for this smaller Duramax.

I did read about it. The good thing is it might be more reliable then my Isuzu Duramax engines in the past. I will never own one again.

I have a hard time believing the mpg figures for the diesel, given the size of the truck...

Karl, I'm thinking Z-71, diesel, long box, probably crew cab, maybe 4X4.

I wonder what a 2.8 is? I would guess a 4 cylinder. I used to check in a forum where a guy was importing a 2.8 IHC from South quit America. Expensive but the Rover guys and some other were trying it out. Not electronic FI. International making that engine, and came out with a common rail engine.

It will give people a choice. I just hope it is cheaper than the big truck. They will sell more. Last time they were about the same as a bigger 1/2 ton truck.

I was hopping GM would bring a Holden Ute here.

The diesel 2.8 is a 4 banger. IDK who or where it is made. I have been hearing it will be the same as the diesel available in the Cruz, except maybe a few small differences.
The Chevy website shows the gas versions start at 20K. I hope a nicely loaded diesel stays under 40K. 8O

If they're priced much more than 75% of a comparably equipped full sized truck I suspect many people will step up to the bigger vehicle. While I'm certainly a small truck fan, many people decide to go with a larger truck "just in case" they might ever need the hauling/towing capacity in the future. A buddy of mine like to say that you can always do a small job with a big truck but not vice versa. Overall cost of ownership of the small truck has to be significantly lower for the buyer to be able to live with lesser capacity, interior room etc. That's why the US manufactrers dropped out of the small truck market. The small trucks became loss-leaders. No way to price them attractively.

Without a doubt the diesel engine will be a costly (albeit desirable) option. I wonder if a diesel small sport utility vehicle version of this truck might be viable.

Yea, I agree. But I already have a big pick up. I want the small one as a commuter, with good mpg, to reserve the F250 for when it's needed.
One of my options is the new Dodge 1/2 ton with the V6 diesel at 28mpg, but I don't want a full size truck that is only a 1/2 ton.

Small trucks have not been a lot cheaper than a full size truck in years. It makes a lot of people go hummmm. You must really need the size for a reason to buy one. Some people are not comfortable with a full size truck. A mid size is closer to car size. I know at one time too may "ladies" were not used to driving things as large as a Suburban or a Tahoe. A lot of those needed passenger side fenders and often more. You could not buy a front clip for a truck or one of those for years..

VM Motori has experience building diesel engines. I think the Jeep diesels were made buy them, but I could be wrong. Common Rail Diesels, but need electronics. But the New Mid sizes engines would have that. I could squeeze that out of my 97 VW Passat, a mid size car with a 5 speed. Great Car

I have my 3/4 ton Chevy for when I need a truck. My Cherokee as my driver, but My stepside Luv will become mine when I get all my stuff on it that I want... It is hot in Texas so I need a/c
