would the magnets from a set of 4" component speakers have any adverse effects on a tape deck or a cassette tape (ie...erase the tape) if there is a piece of 1/2" plywood separating them?

it's possible. If there's only a half inch of space between a magnet and magnetic media, then it wouldn't matter if there was plywood in between or not. You could probably get by with about 12" of space in between them.

I would hold a speaker somewhere near a tv and note when the image distorts. Keep the speakers at least that far from your cassettes.

hmmmmm.....ok im trying to keep it as small as possible.
i wonder if i could use something to insulate like maybe thick rubber?

heres what im trying to pull off. when i deploy i will be driving a peice of shit army truck (2 1/2 ton cargo) for a VERY long time. and guess what? army trucks dont gots radios in the past ive used boom boxes and such. but i wanna get something i can wire up to one side of the 24volt system on the truck.

so i am building a box that will hold the HU and a speaker basicaly.
and before ya say use a CD player......tapes are much more durable and i think the truck will vibrate too much to use the CD player w/o it skipping like crazy.

if you want to use rubber, just find someone you really hate and cut a 1'x1' hunk out of their tire and leave. or you could find an old tire and cut off the tread.
