+1

but didn't the GT's come out in '72 or '73?

I remember looking for a chrome bumpered (w/o the ugly black plastic things) GT and nothing was coming up on the search engines.

The LT,ST and GT were available in 71 for the American market.
The GTV was introduced to the Japanese market in 72.

Are these the chrome bumpers you are referring to Eric?

They are commonly called Smiley bumpers and the all chrome ones were only available in Japan.
The chrome smiley bumpers for the 1st Generation Celicas are highly sought after and spendy to say the least.
Aftermarket fiberglass smiley bumpers are available these days and look great painted to match the rest of the car.

Here's a couple more pics of my 81 Celica GT coupe.
I'll post up some pics of the other Celica projects I have at this time.

Yes, that's the bumper I was thinking of. I like those so much better than the ones with black plastic. I don't think I've ever seen an LT. Just the ST and GT.

Does the first generation GT have a 5 speed?

All your pics make me wish I had never gotten rid of my wife's 78 Celica GT. She had it when we met, became my car for a few years after the kids and Suburban came along, and we sold it in about '93. That guy's brother wrecked it.

Classic Celica's are nice. I'm new to the Luv, just bought my first one today...

But here is my other addiction. This is my 1987 Nissan 300ZX. This would be the 5th 300ZX that I've owned and plan to own more. The Luv is going to be my DD for a while to give the Z some vacation time until I decide what I'm going to do (sell/keep) with the Luv.
