So I have been looking around and price checking everything and I've come up with this, a 350 made into a 327, a turbo 400, and an 88 Isuzu trooper rear end. Sound successful? Tell me what ya think before I get in to deep. I am a budget builder so keep that in mind. 78 chevy luv bone stock btw.

Vote #2 for 350 . Also 400 is bigger and harder to fit into the truck . I suggest th350 or 700r4 .

The Trooper rear-end is probably too wide also. Many members on here have stated that the stock Luv rearend will work fine with street tires and a mild V8.

So keep a 350 a 350 and stock rear end. I was not looking forward to changing that
Anyways. And a 700r4 sounds good also. Thanks I know what I need now.

A 327 would be fine for daily street driving also. I don't understand why someone would start with a 350 and make it a 327. I don't understand how one can do that.
So any reliable, good running small block Chevy motor will work. And for daily driving, I suggest the 700R4 because of the overdrive. It'll get better MPG on the road.

You will need the overdrive with the 4.56 gear that is probably in the rear . A narrowed 9 inch can be done for $750-800 if your frugal and handy .

A 327 and a 350 use the same block just different crank pistons and rods. Little more stuff but u get the idea a 327 can run hella rpm's if I'm not mistaken.

If your buying the crank , pistons and rods then build a 383 for the same price and put 327 stickers on the valve covers , just sayin .

If on a budget Jegs has 350 crate engines for $1500 with 3 year /100,000 mile warranty with free shipping .

So the stock rear end will hold up to a normal 350. What if I'm pushing a bit more what can I use that will fit right in. I don't wanna build a 9 inch or cut down an axel housing. Any other options?

Properly built, a 700r4 is a good trans. I had one in my s10 blazer (with a 327) I liked the trans, not the engine, lol...

I thought the s10 rear end was wider than the stock rear end? Can I offset the wheels to compensate for the width and not go too far past the fender wells?

Or take an explorer 8.8 and buy 2 short side axles and cut 3 inches out of the long side and weld in spring perches and be done . They come in 3.55 , 3.73 or 4.11
