lol dragging a thread out is what gives people something to do on the site. would be real dull if threads stopped right once the question was answered.

dang how many people flip their car in a month down there the only time i was ever in a car that rolled it was intentional

Rolled it 2 and 1/2 times. Wasn't wearing my seatbelt and broke my neck. Came within millimeters of losing my life or be paralyzed. Had two loose bowling balls in the car that ended up 50 feet away.

WEAR YOUR SEATBELT.

OH MY F***ING GOSH!!!! I simply can't believe it!!!!! He did it again; DAD FLIPPED HIS NEW CAR THIS MORNING!!!!!!! :shocked!: I couldn't believe it when he called.... He fortunately wasn't driving super fast this time, but still!! Luckily again he wasn't injured (besides his pride); I'm guessing its because he was heading to church..... That doesn't make up for the insurance hikes tho! Counting mom's wreck in Boulder last summer, me being 19, and both of dad's roll over accidents, we're going to be paying a ridiculous amount now....

So he was driving to church when he rounded a corner a little too fast in the snow (got 4" last night), started sliding, and went off on the right side of the road. Again, he had to turn off the car and unbuckle himself while hanging there, but this time the door wasn't conveniently propped open like last time, so he was stuck in there for a few mins.... :esurprised Luckily a passerby saw him on the side of the road and was able to open the back hatch and let him out; those doors are heavy!!! Here's the pics, again there's lots of them....

Again, he went off on Highway 7, within 10 miles of home....
Image

I suppose the only way to explain why he tipped over that way is that his wheels on the passenger side went up the embankment there.
Image
Image

Luckily we (me, mom, dad, and the two tow truck guys) we're able to push the vehicle upright again without a winch.
Image
Image
Image

On his way off the road, he hit a big rock and snapped the tie rod. It's made of aluminum of course...
Image

Luckily the car wasn't damaged hardly at all, it was just a slow tip over....
Image
Image

Some scuff marks on the side, but we don't think its totaled.... :)
Image

No broken glass either.
Image

Smashed mirror.
Image

Once it was upright, it was pretty easy to winch up onto the flat bed.

Dad grabbing some stuff out of the car with my lil bro.
Image

The drivers side door doesn't open.... :?
Image
Image

Getting it up on the tow truck.
Image
Image

This is where he went off.
Image

Haha, Nathan was imagining what it was like to be driving the car when it happened....
Image

We think this is the rock that broke the tie rod.
Image

Well, besides the fact that he has to dish out $500 for the deductible on it, the super high insurance rates, and facing the humiliation of flipping two cars in less than a month... He's doing great!!!

I guess this one did end up in a ditch... :econfused

Well we got some news from the Boulder Collision Center today, the car is TOTALED!! When I heard they were totaling it, I was like, "What?! Why?" Apparently the frame is bent. When I look at the picture closer (the one that shows the bottom of the car up), if you look at the bottom on the drivers side, right next to the wheel, it looks like the frame may have pinched? :?: Not sure...

But anyways, this changes our plans a bit... We're trying to decide if dad deserves another car, . I was thinking that, since dad really likes mom's Mercury Mountaineer, give him that car and let HER pick out a new car. Mom isn't sure about that tho... She doesn't want dad to flip her 'beautiful' car, lol . Any suggestions on cars for her or for dad? I was thinking a Subaru hatchback or something; must be AWD/4x4 and low center of gravity for him....

AWD Ford Five Hundred. Its a low, 4 door car. Now days they are back to calling them a Taurus.

subaru impreza or legacy maybe? the 90's ones had AWD and the same engine (minus turbo, keep him slower ) and are way cheaper than the newer imprezas and wrx.

8O Geez...at this point...maybe a year-round bus pass is a better idea.

J/K...

But IMHO I think something low and slow with front wheel drive or all wheel drive is probably a very good idea. That's the trouble with those dang SUV's. They give everyone a false sense of security and safety - when they are actually some of the worse handling vehicles on the road. I've owned several S10 Blazers, a Toyota 4 Runner, and a Nissan Pathfinder...and my daughter used to own a Mazda Navajo (same vehicle as a Ford Explorer). I'd sure never own another one. They all guzzled gas, cornered lousy, and handled terribly in the rain, snow, and ice.

And seems like everyone around here that owns one drives it like a Tijuana cab driver...lol. I don't EVER drive my Luv when it's icy or there's snow on the road, and my tricked out '02 GMC Sonoma 3-door 2WD truck doesn't get driven much in the ice and snow either. Too many unskilled drivers cruisin' around in their SUV's sliding through stop signs and stop lights around here because they can't figure out that a big heavy 4X4/SUV doesn't stop worth a darn when the roads are slick.

To tell the truth...my wife's little 4DR front wheel drive "04 Chevy Aveo is probably one of the best handling vehicles in the snow and ice that we've ever owned. She just loves the dickens out of that little car - so much that I hardly ever get to drive it. It surprisingly hauls 4 people or a lot of stuff around pretty well. And it's one of the cheapest to drive and maintain that we've ever owned too...lol
