:esurprised So last night dad was driving home (way too fast like always) when he hit a patch of ice, spun around, hit the snow bank and flipped his car over 1 and half times... :esurprised Luckily he wasn't seriously injured, just a bump on the head, a cut knee and a sore neck. But I thought I'd post some pics that I took of it today.... 8O

So this was last night just after it happened... Had ALOT of people stop, but the Sheriff kept the traffic moving. Thats my sis and my dad in the pic and his car upside down. It's a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer.
Image

This is where the car landed after rolling. It's pretty smashed up....
Image

When the car landed the door was miraculously propped open against those trees. Dad said he woulda had a difficult time getting out if it wasn't open like that....
Image

Dad said he felt the car start to slip as he rounded the turn, then he held on as it spun around backwards. The next thing he knew he was dangling upside down in his seat by his seat belt... The car was still running so he turned it off.
Image

I still can't quite figure out how the door ended up propped open like that; the doors were locked he said.... Haha, my truck in the background.
Image

Door looked like it was in OK shape.
Image

Inside the car. The rear widow busted out so thats how the snow got in there.
Image

The back of the roof got pushed in. Haha, the lights still work.
Image

Car ended up taking out about a dozen little pines...
Image

Front end was pretty smashed up...
Image

Drive train looks alright, it ran when it flipped. I wonder if we flipped it back over if it would drive?....
Image

It looked really bad from the road.....
Image

Has new tires and just replaced the ball joints... Bummer.....
Image

We still are having issues with the towing company, so its still sitting there like that...
Image

Veiw from road. Rolled down into the ditch.
Image

Path the car rolled down.
Image

Broken mirror.
Image

Car had 144,000 miles on it. I guess we got some good life out of it...
Image

Where it landed. And where it still sits....
Image

So the towing company at first said they wouldn't tow it because its upside down. So we said that we'd flip it back over for them, but then they said they couldn't tow it at all. So we called another company and they said they'd get it first thing in the morning. Insurance company wasn't any help either. We didn't have collision on it, so they basically said, "We'll pay for the hospital visit, but your on your own with the car..." :x Oh well, at least he wasn't hurt too bad. No concussion or anything, gave him a tetnus shot just it case.

Mom wants to keep the new tires and the new battery. Do you think we could unbolt those at the scrap yard? I have no idea... :o

Sucks bad about the car, but good to hear he is okay... from experiences the mental shakeup is often worse than a broken bone. At least on my part. Hope things turn out salvageable

Glad to know that your Dad is OK.
So did you do reverse parenting on him and lecture him on the consequences of speeding??? :)

If you can flip it over, you may be able to drive it out - 4X4?

Ya, the doctor was prolly worried most about how he was doing mentally but its almost like it didn't even phase him. He's already looking for another car online, XD.

Haha, ya, we all lectured him about it, but this is his second wreck this year, so i doubt he'll listen....

It is a 4x4. Ha, you think we could try to drive it out huh? I think we do have a towing company who can pull it out, but we're not quite sure where to take it... The scrapyard we were looking at only quoted us at $300 for it. :? I think we could prolly do better than that on craigslist, lol.

I think you could hook up a chain/rope to your truck and flip it upright and probably drive it right out. Worth a try at least. Don't take $300, you can part it out for 5 times that. Good luck and glad no one was hurt.

Haha, ya, either that or make him buy a 4 cylinder 4x4, He's looking at '05-'06 F-150's right now... Hopefully he's learned a lesson, .

Here's some more pics of the tow and the damage. I'm surprised it wasn't damaged more! Sry about all the pics, I'm just like that, :ebiggrin .

Still laying there after 3 days.... :econfused

Exhaust pipe was plugged with dirt....
Image
Image
Image

Tow truck FINALLY got there!!!!
Image

We hooked up a chain to the pass. side front and rear axles and used a winch to pull it upright.
Image

After we pulled it right-side up.
Image

Driver window was completely smashed in and filled with snow and I think half a tree...
Image
Image
Image

Rear roof smashed in pretty bad... Hatch wont open anymore... lol
Image
Image
Image

Driver's side door didn't close anymore...
Image
Image

Side winch on Tow truck, pretty heavy duty.
Image

We hooked up a chain to the front and pulled it up to the road. It leaked most of its oil out and the exhaust was plugged, prolly not good to drive it out... 8O lol
Image
Image

Got it up onto the truck.
Image

Unloaded it at Meineke in Broomfield.
Image

We cleaned out all our junk and got it ready for the salvage yard.
Image
Image

Roof caved in a bit.
Image
Image
Image

Guy finally came, paid us $500, and hauled it off. Ha, the guy didn't realize you can't tow an AWD on two wheels and he didn't have another trailer, so he took out the drive shaft, . I couldn't help but laugh at the guy a bit... He's just starting up a salvage business apparently. Oh well, his money's good, lol.
Image
Image

Well, I'm glad thats all taken care of. What do you guys think about the '04-'07 F-150's? The sure look good, .

dang that thing is in pretty good shape for being rolled over i expected it to have caved in a bit more!
lol yeah might not wanna try starting it with a pipe clogged fulla dirt XD
(just in case he decides to roll over another one... drain the oil and refill it before you try starting it)

the 04-07 f150s are pretty nice for being fords XD (unless im on something other than what i know of.. that would be the model with the honeycomb looking grill right?)
rented one for a trip to wyoming a couple years ago, drove and handled well with the motorcycle trailer behind it. and it was a blast to drift around in a big field of shale. if i was to recommend a ford other than an late 60's or mach 1 mustang it would be a newer f150.

huh. $500 for a rolled exploder? yank out the motor, trans, ecu and such and sell the setup for $1500.. i might have to start doin that XD

Haha, a cut top summer vehicle? That woulda been sweet!! If it was my car I would of done it.

Ya, I've always liked the post-'04 F-150's. I test drove one a couple months ago when I was looking for a truck, but they were a bit too pricey for me... :( He's looking at Ford Explorer Sport Tracs also. He's a Ford guy, lol.

lol my dad is a blue oval guy too XD honestly if EVERY Ford he has owned didnt have transmission issues i might hate them less. when going up a hill in seattle with a motorcycle behind you and your transmission completely quits driving forward it tends to cause problems.... BUT i gotta give it to ford on those new F150 Raptors... those things are insane... i want one

So idk if anybody was curious, but dad bought a new-ish car a couple days ago. He got a 2002 Ford Explorer. Pretty much the same thing he had before, but its a V6 this time (he's already complaining about it,). But I think he got a pretty good deal on it; 105,000 miles, leather heated seats, 4x4, 6 cd changer, etc. etc. (lol) for $6900. Not too bad I'd say,. But here's a few pics of it.

We were laughing at how he picked out exactly the same car,.

Sry, crappy pics... It'll need new tires soon and a new battery, but he sure likes it, :D. Hopefully this one won't end up in a ditch!!!!!! :esurprised
