So, the police department officially is after specifically me. I've gotten to the point of carrying a GPS unit in my LUV to record my speed, checking my lights before I leave the house, and driving in well lit low crime areas.

I suppose it all started back when they impounded my truck due to a DMV error. Actually got an apology letter from the Sargeant for that one. Long story short: DMV updated my record with a DUI that never happened. Suspended license, so on and so forth. Puled over, truck impounded, picture taken, whole nine yards.

Tonight, I was pulled over (it has happened every time I leave the house after 11:30), and the officer asked me how long it had been since my license had been reinstated. (His reason for stopping me was a burnt out license plate light. Guess what? Perfect working order. Light works.) I had made sure that my driving record was completely fixed, not even a trace of the "suspension". Not even the law enforcement printout says anything about it. So, that picture they took of me that night is still posted inside the PD somewhere. With all the details posted right next to it.

So, here's the kicker:
I was parked and getting out of my truck to use the ATM. I had shut my lights off. Shut the engine off, swung my legs out the door. He pulled up behind me, no flashing lights, nothing, and told me to get back in my truck.

Police just love me.

Oh, but other than that life is wonderful! I have a job, I'm getting decent grades, got my VW engine going, and my girlfriend has been incredibly nice to me.

Life's good. And I'm moving to Washington as soon as I'm done with school.

California is only pleasant weather. Our gov't sucks. Pelosi is from here. Need I say more?

Ret1614, man I feel for you. I had a cop that kept following my GF home and would actually pull up in her driveway and try to chat with her. She told him she wasn't interested and he kept doing it. I was at her place one day when he pulled up and one thing led to another, tempers raged, he threatened me that I didn't know what I was getting into or who I was !@#$%^& with, I told him I wasn't intimidated by him or his badge, a few phone calls later led to his never coming by again. I never did have any other issues over it. That was back in the late 90's. It might have helped that I have a very good friend on the police force here that vouched for me as a friend. I had issues as a teen as well but somehow I probably deserved it. Good luck with it. being Harrassed everytime you leave the house would get OLD.

Cops say it's not true but it is. If you get busted for any DUI, or drugs your lic plate gets on a list. They pull you over just in case you slip up, since you look like you slipped up in the past for a DUI you never got.

In the 80's my room mate went to jail for DUI in my truck after borrowing to go to the store cause his truck was blocked in the driveway. I got pulled over in it for @ 1 year. I went to DMV and got new plates, cause during one of the times I was stopped this cop gave me a ticket for no front lic plate. I didn't have two plates, just one, so I turn it in to DMV, they reissued two new ones. It stopped soon after.

I sold a car to this guy I knew. He went to jail for life because he was a 2 striker for trafficking drugs. On his third strike he let someone use his van to traffic and he was convicted for it. Soon after that I reviewed a letter from the Feds saying I was part of this national investigation which included wire tapping and if I wanted to have more info to call the number listed. I called, and it turn out since my number was in his phone due to conversations about the car, they wire tapped me. Well for a while now if I or my wife drove a white 90's Camary we got pulled over and sometimes at gun point. They would tear apart the car and then give some lame excuse to why we were pulled from no lic plate light to matching the description of a stolen car. The stolen car one was stupid cause there was another same year white Camary on the road with us. Never happen in any other car we drove. We went and got personal plate on the car and it all stopped.

BS, give me proof. You people need to pull your head out of the sand. So every cop on patrol has a list of all DUI vehicles, they look at every car on the road, read the plate and compair it to their 20 page list?

Well. yea. Aren't they are taught "speed reading while driving" at the academy?

Alright, so I can understand the whole they have a list. They wouldn't have to thumb through a book. Search, anyone? They all have computers in their cruisers, and even I could set up a searchable database that they could access just as easily as typing in the plate to run it through the system. No speedreading required.
But, being as small as Sonora is, it wouldn't be too difficult to pick me out. I'm the only LUV daily driver in the county (except Mike, but he switches back and forth, and his is a blue+white 2x4). Having hair that covers my ears nicely prolly doesn't help with the anonymity factor at all either.

I'm going to go to the DMV and get another printout of my record, and possibly talk to a friend to get the LE printout also, just to make sure that the DMV actually did take care of business. If DMV did, the lady that works dispatch for PD and the investigator are pretty nice, and I'll see if they can help figure out what's up. I think they have a wall with pictures of all the people that received misdemeanor tickets somewhere in the station, and they did take my picture that night, and driving on a suspended lic. is a misdemeanor (lol, they took my Boy Scout troop on a tour once upon a time. 'Tis good to be a scout).

luvrv8, how long has it been since you were LE or even LEO?

The database does not cross reference drivers to vehicles, only insurance and reg hits on plates.

I got the papers from the Feds saying I was under fedral investigation.

And tell me they don't run your plates before you get pulled over and already have answer to question they are about to ask you. And know if they are dealing with a fellon before they even get out of the car.

I'm sure LE keeps records of things like DUI's, impounded vehicles, vehicles found to be driven by unlicensed individuals, and all the other big stuff.
It doesn't even have to be official. I could use microsoft excel (or even a free one like OpenOffice) to make a searchable database. By license plate #, DL#, offense type, so on and so forth. It would take 5 minutes, so I'm sure they've done it. Especially with the lax workload the police have here. I would have access to something like that if I were a cop, and if I didn't, I'd start keeping that kind of file.

I like the CHP, and the County Sheriff. They're good people. Probably most of the people working for SPD are good people also, but not the ones I've been dealing with. I have nothing against the cops, but Sonora is over staffed, and they're just looking for something to do. Bored cops are mean cops.

lol, here, a DUI arrest count is a lot like RBI. SPD puts out trading cards on occasion.

I know they do it for their safety also.

Funny, I have never seen a "list" in my job.

Plates are ran before the lights come on. all that would come back is there is a want or hold on the registered owner, nothing more.

Get a cheap scanner and listen to it at home, some states do not let you use one in a automobile. You can see what they are doing. Get someone to record the scanner and you go out. That should answer what they are doing... It is possible that local cops could do something, but I would bet state or sheriff department are not doing that. If the local guys have have some kind of list, it is public record and can be requested with a Freedom of Information Act.. The state should have such a law too. Just look on the internet. Radio Shack sells a book with the frequency's in it or just look on the internet....You can also just let is auto scan, but that takes a little.

You may need to listen and figure out the meaning of the numbers they use.... It is kind of cool listening to a scanner. My brother has two on all the time at home... I used to also. That is the real COPS...

Luver8 is right, a lot of times they do run the plates before they stop you. Only bad thing is it is not you, but the car they are stopping..... Be nice if they do.

Just my 2 cents...

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.
