It seems you are ahead of the game if the lady doesn't have a price in mind. Thus, think about what YOU are willing to pay for it, and leave it at that...if she doesn't agree, you might re-evaluate your wishes or wait for another truck to come along.
My experience with buying my truck was that first I decided that I wanted a LUV. Wasn't too specific about year or whatever. So I found one on Ebay motors that was close to me, and I decided I wanted to go look at it. Before I went looking, I decided I was willing to pay $1500 cash for it (this is California, everything is expensive), so I brought the cash with me, in case it was good and he would sell then and there. When went and saw it, the bidding wasn't over on Ebay yet. I also found that this guy wanted more than I thought it was probably worth...it was an '80 4x4 with some frame rust, a particularly greasy engine bay, worn out interior...bad brakes...so I waited, it went too high on Ebay, and I didn't get that one.
A couple of days later I saw another LUV on the internet that looked cherry for a 1972. It was two states away, but after talking with the small town dealer and looking at some good pictures, I decided to get it. It was $2000, but to me it looked worth a solid $2000. So that's the truck I ended up with, and it turned out to be a steal at that price given the age.
Given your area of the country and the condition you describe, I would say if you're comfortable offer $800 and try and buy it for less than $1000.
Of course, maybe I don't know the value of a LUV and am lowballing it...or highballing it...In the end, it's all about what you want to pay, not what it's worth. See if you can get it for what you want to pay for it. (Although I realize this question is about knowing what you want to pay for it...and I apologize if I'm not very helpful...)
