and i have FINALLY figured out what to use it for.
it only turns like 12 rpm but has like 150 ft/lbs of torque.

automatic pop can/beer can crusher :D

there is also gonna be a guide on that 3/4" shaft. forgot to put it in there.

all parts i either have or can acquire from work

p.s. excuse the crappy MS paint "blueprint" I'm much better with CAD or a pencil and pad.

Looks good to me. :)

How you gonna get the cans out though? Are you going to stop the motor after each cycle and grab the can with your finger? Maybe mount the "crusher" sideways so they fall out once the piston starts to travel back out? Then you could leave the motor running.

yeah thats the plan. its gonna be horizontal so HOPEFULLY the cans fall out that notch at the bottom far left of the big pipe and into a trash can below. if not i will have to rig some kinda "kicker" to it.

I'm thinking with 150 ft/lbs of torque it should smash them pretty flat. it has a threaded rod on the arbor of the motor to adjust the stroke length of the piston. and i am putting a piece of 5/8" all thread into the "connecting rod" to adjust the depth.

brought a whole lunch box of parts home from work today. but my dumb ass forgot to stop and buy welding rod

You know what's going to happen don't you?

Your going to get it working and then after about 10 minutes your going to wish it had an auto feeder. :)

i am gonna try and make one. after i get it to work of course. need to see how well it crushes and resets first. im hoping to load up at least a case of empties at a time.

now that would be a fun game, 4 buddies, a case of beer, and this contraption. see if we can finish the case before the machine does  :drinking:

So back to the drawing board...or time to tear it apart and re-do everything?

well the piston, sleeve, rod, and arbor will work with just about any motor...i got a couple 1/4 and 1/3 hp motors layin around. but they spin WAY too fast i think. maybe if i could control the speed on them a bit....reaostat maybe??
:?

You can gear the motors down using pulleys and belts and with about a 40-60 to1 ratio it would work and look like a well schooled engineer did it LOL. But a proper gear reduction and the 1/3 horse would have no trouble doing the job.
