LOL...funny stuff.

Thanks...I needed that today.

But please...don't get me started on that subject. We would be here laughing our butts off all day.

I surely have seen some wild-n-crazy stuff that people have done inside the case of a pc, and I have had some pretty wild-n-crazy questions tossed at me too.

It's positive proof of 2 things - that a little knowledge in the wrong hands is a seriously dangerous thing, and that some people don't even bother to try to comprehend what they are doing at all.

But it doesn't make me upset much - I look at those customers as job security...lol

Job security is right.

I think I prefer IRL tech support to phone, trying to get someone to follow specific instructions about a PC or program can put me right over the edge. especialy the ones who think "they get it" and get all click happy, lost and have to start all over. Nick Burns, the company Computer Guy from SNL comes to mind alot.

That was the name of my first onsite PC repair biz "The Computer Guy", damned near ran me out of the industry :)

Now I do networks, VOIP, and Help Desk for our local ISD, thank God for Remote Desktop, VNC and Group Policie managment.

Yeah...I used to do a lot more of on-site repair at the customer's location...now more and more I just pick 'em up or have them bring their pc into the shop if I can.

Besides the fact that some people don't control their kids and pets very well, and some folks seem to be seriously allergic to house cleaning, it can be pretty frustrating to try to sort things out and fix the problem with them breathing down your neck pestering you the whole time. And sometimes running around in traffic all day trying to get to all of my service calls can really be a huge pain in the butt.

I pretty much focus just on the OS, the networking, and the hardware, and I usually won't get involved much with any third party software, not because I can't handle it - but mainly because they don't want to pay my hourly rate to deal with it...lol

I would probably consider working as a OS/Hardware repair tech or a Network tech for someone else, but no one around here wants to pay very much unless I want to go to work for the state or the feds - and I don't want or need to deal with all of that BS drama or the back-stabbing inter-office politics either - so I'll pass...lol

When I'd show up at someone's house and they asked "what'd do you charge to...?"

I'd usualy say, $60/hr, $70/hr if you've already started, and $100 if you watch.
