Hey all thought i would say hey! Trying to make more time to get on here and see what the peeps are up to. Ive been busy laying under a Camaro for the last 18 months, what a pain in the ass, I thought I was done building cars after the nova was done lol. Anyhow im currently in the process of moving into a new place, that will allow me to build a new big shop so I can finaly complete my drag truck project. I sorta jumped into this camaro project head first, a buddy said I could have it for $50 bucks delivered, and the rest was history. Dont have any current pics posted anywhere yet, but a few bucks later and many hours it runs and is almost track ready. At the moment everything is moth balled in storage awaiting completion of my shop and move, but I should be back on the track come September to at least test the camaro.
The Camaro was my easy ticket to exploring a big block build, and it's been a blast wrenching on a rat. The motor is a 470 cubic inch, 14.6:1, all roller (.726" lift, 276@ .050"), with a pair of 781 iron heads fully ported and milled to 110cc. Running 2 1/8" open headers, a reworked holley 850, MSD 7AL-2, 2 step, retard box, with a JW 1.76 glide with trans brake, and a red neck converters 8" 5,500 stall spragless converter, all motor. This was totaly a budget build (ok well, maybe by some standards) using all used parts, the bottom end is a 2-bolt early block, JE 40cc pistons, GM steel crank (ground .20/.30), dimple rods, SPS bolts, a reground crane roller, on an Erson core, with used red zone lifters, manton rods, ferrera titanium valves, titanium retainers, and crazy Vasco springs, I got the motor core from a buddy for $1200 complete, so I just freshened it up. Its out of a s/comp dragster and has quite a few runs down the track so I hope it stays together for a few seasons anyway! I used a mild cam profile so my goal is to just have a dependable easy to tune bracket motor, the springs have 320# on the seat, so it should be a work horse. It is built to make about 720 horse on motor, and wind to about 7,200 all day, and make the low tens in any weather. Next season I would like to run it in the (electronics) super pro class with delay box and all that fun stuff.
My plan for my luv truck is to get it on the chopping block late this year (soon as the shop is done) and get it back halved and put a cage in it, with a motor plate, front coilovers, and some paint. Then using a set of custom Lemons 2 1/4" headers shoehorn the 470 into it with the glide and a 9"/spool/4.88 for a nice dependable nine second bracket rig. Ive been losing weight and getting fit so I can twist myself into/out of the LUV rollcage lol
The nova has been a garage queen since I parked it last season, no room has made it difficult to do anything to it lol But I do have a spiffy 355 on the stand built for a 400 shot fogger, pretty much the same spec as the current motor, but with crazy rods and a 4340 light crank, better roller lifters and a plumbed fogger, and plan to go to a glide and a transbrake. Hopefully in the coming year they will host some heads up steet car classes up here, and ill compete with the nova, but the current suspension in it will only allow for mid nines even with a progressive box, my buddy has a 65 with the same setup and runs 9.70's at a buck thirty.
Here is an old pic of the camaro, it looks much the same, cept it has a 10 point cage and all the drivetrain in it now..
Later!
