So my Sunday was interesting to say the least....was driving around town earlier today doing erands and stuff when my rear driveshaft decides to let loose on me, I mean the thing started to shake something fierce and then there was a loud CLUNK, when it did that I was going about 30-40mph and thankfully there wasn't much carnage. I will say that I am glad that the drive shaft is one-piece, and that it rides on top of a cross member Rolling Eyes , So i pull over onto a side road and get out to investigate the damage, so i look under the truck (on the passenger side, this proves to be a baaaaad mistake on my part) and see the drive shaft hanging down, apparently the bolts that hold the yoke to the rear axle decided that they wanted a vacation...all 4 were gone...no trace of any of them. so i reach under to pull the drive shaft out and in the process get a 2nd degree burn on the back of my wrist...ouchy!! So I get the drive shaft out (this time from the driver's side Embarassed ) and throw it in the back of the Luv. I will say i am very glad my truck is 4x4, or else i would have been screwed. So i throw the truck in 4x and drive to my local True Value to get some new bolts...grade 8 hardware along with grade 8 self locking nuts (the ones that have the nylon insert) and some lock washers to make sure it all stays tight. throw the thing back together and all is well in Luvland except that i have a burn on my wrist.....So how was every one else's day? Laughing Laughing

I'm glad everything , except the burn , worked out for you . I tossed a driveshaft about a week ago and had to push the thing about a half mile . Boy was i wore out . Man was sore the next morning .

I've never had one let loose, but the front shaft on my 79 was being held on by two loose bolts when I got it. I did once watch a treefrog cause the driveline on a lifted ford ranger to break loose at the trans yoke. Lucky for the ford owner it was at a dead stop as the DL had no hoop holding it from hitting the ground.
