I reinstalled my Ford 9" axle today. The work done by Pro Gear was right on the money. Everything was apart (3rd member, housing, axles) The backing plates were still on the truck because i didn't want to disconnect the brake lines and e-brake cable. I picked up my axle seals( had to be ordered) from the parts store and got busy. The housing fell into place on the leaf springs perfectly. The 3rd member was a pain to get in but it didn't take too long. Axles, backing plates, brake assys, drums, wheels and drive shaft seemed to jump from my hands and fit themselves to the truck. Even putting the gear oil was a no-mess task. All thats left to do is to initially adjust the brakes and get it off of the blocks. It was as smooth as it sounds when you read a hop-up article in a magazine. Hell! If i had somebody taking pictures, i could have put together my own article. Today was one of those zen-like mechanical experiences that we all have been in from time to time. Yes, it was a Good day!

I got to drive it today and it runs very, very smooth. The vibration problem is non-existent. I didn't realize how bad the problem was until i got it fixed. I was as giddy as a school girl. Man! I couldn't ask for a smoother setup. It was another Good Day!

You have no idea. Even with all of the rework, in the back of my mind i was thinking that it wouldn't correct the problem. As it turns out, it's better than i anticipated. The only thing i notice is the soft, dull, smooth vibration thats associated with the combination of tall gearing and a motor thats stronger than normal. It's a sweet humm, not a harsh, nasty vibe. The difference only assures me that if i were to let it continue as before, it would have destroyed itself. It ran that bad. I am very lucky to get things sorted out to this state before suffering some kind of catastrophic failure. After i get some local miles on it and make sure that things are soild, i wont hesitate taking a major trip in it. I know that the truck will handle it better than i would.
