We very rarely see widows around here. A couple years back I found one in the stairwell of the apartment building I was living in though. Oddly enough, It was right out in the open in a sunny corner and hung out right at the end of the handrail. It was like it was waiting for someone to bite. With the number of small kids and old folks in that building it was just a matter of time before someone got nailed so I caught her and her egg sac in a plastic jar and stuffed them in the freezer. I know you won't usually die from a widow bite, but there were several older people around there in poor health that may not have held up too well to one.

I also used to find brown recluse spiders where I worked. We got packages in from all over the states and a lot of stuff from Asia so I figured that is how they came in. Otherwise they are rare around here too. Worst thing we have that you see much of is Hobo spiders. They give you that nasty rotting flesh kind of bite similar to a brown recluse. Hobos take some work to get them pissed enough to bite though.

Snakes are also pretty tame around here. Tons of Garter snakes, a few big gopher snakes, cute little rubber boas, but nothing poisonous. It is conceivable to find a Timber Rattler, but I've never seen one in 30 some years of tromping through the brush here.

Gotta love Oregon's Willamette Valley, the land nature forgot to put any deadly venomous critters into. I suppose some idiot will import something eventually though. If it kills Voles and field mice it might be a good trade after the year we've had for them. I had one try to climb the leg of my coveralls a few months ago when I was pulling something out from under a parts LUV.

My least favorite bug of all time: Yellow Jacket
My second least favorite bug of all time: Black Widow Spider

I kill two or three a week around here, without fail.

About two weeks ago I had to put the 76 LUV in the garage and bomb the garage to kill all the spiders on the truck.

And if that weren't enough, found a fricken SCORPION in my kitchen last week. That thing gave me the willies. I had no idea they were so fast! Good news is, bug spray kills 'em quick.

Hey 800 xl what did you do with the black wierdo in the freezer? Is it still there? I wonder if you let it thaw out if it would come back to life? LOL. The other day at work I was unwrapping some street light poles that come wrapped in some thin cardboard paper stuff, I looked down and had one hooked up to my leg with the web coming at me like in a big hurry so I jumped around like a wild man flinging my arms and kicking my legs finally got it off of me I found my hard hat about 30 feet away. That was probably one of the worst experiances I have had with spiders. I have allways had a problem with spiders since I was a little kid. I was about 3 or 4 and I remember my dad tucking me into bed one night and there was a huge wolf spider on the wall. It was a new house and they were all over for a while but I remember telling my dad to kill it and he missed it crawled down the wall and under my bed and my dad said good night and shut the light off and walked out. every since then spiders have scared the crap out of me.

black widows are friggin nasty to get bit by. I had that happen to me when I was little103 degree fever my body felt like I had been put in mike tyson punching bag, vomiting all over the place. I don`t like spiders either.

My younger brother and I was working on one of my LUVs. We had the interior out and was removing the original transmission and motor. I was inside and he was below me. I removed the leather cover over the shifter and saw the biggest damn widow I have ever seen.. Yelled my brothers name and Spider, he was out side and standing next to the truck before i finished saying spider. There was tons all over the truck, spent the next few hours scouring the truck and killing anything that moved. Took us nearly and hour and 2 bottles of poison to get the big one. Finally got it clear of the truck with a stick. And of course we decided to torture it with bug spray. It didn't faze it. Its body must have been about the size of a dime, not including the legs. I think we ended up sprayinit gasoline and burning it. hehe... Had to have fun with it. Scared the hell out of both of us.

LOL I seen a big one last night it was huge and I was out of spider spray, carb cleaner and brake kleen so I got a can of gunk engine degreaser and pretty much drowned it. As soon as I started spraying it she was headed for the underside of the air breather and if it got under there I knew I was in trouble where I couldnt spray it. I think I am going to the store tomorrow and getting the bug bombs and a case of carb cleaner.

Are you sure it wasn't a teranchula? :D (misspelled I'm sure)

I've been told the babies are the ones to watch out for. Just like rattle snakes they don't know how to regulate their poison, so they just give it all to you.

actually I just remembered something else, not about spidies, one night about 3 years ago my sister was in the B-room and shreeked, I ran in there and there was a HUGE CENTAPEID in the floor, i'm talking like an 1-1/4" wide and 2foot long, but it was in the middle of the night and couldn't see a thing(eye crispys lol) so I went into my room and got the "pole that loads a blackpower gun" and trying to stab it or get it to stay in the b-room. Turns out it runs and goes behind the sink. My dad went in the morn. and showered the back of the sink with bug spray... scared the carp outta' me.
