I constantly e-mail my representitives in Louisiana with issues, concerns, complaints, etc. Now here is what I get from them about what is going on in Washington!
Dear Friend,
After the Senate Finance Committee passed a bill that is more than 1,500 pages long and the House of Representatives proposed a 1,017-page bill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is now secretly writing a health care bill behind closed doors with only a couple of handpicked senators and Obama Administration officials “negotiating” the language.
This new bill will not go through the normal committee process, and undoubtedly there will be an attempt to rush it through Congress to President Obama’s desk.
Many in Louisiana and across the country are rightly skeptical and concerned about this process.
And that’s why I’m pushing for a resolution to change Senate rules and require that all bills be made publicly available, along with the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimate of their cost, for 72 hours before legislative action.
Bills should not be secretly written and rushed through the legislative process, especially this government-run health care proposal, which will affect every American and one-sixth of our economy. Congress and the public should have time to review the legislation so that they know exactly what is being voted on and what the effects of the legislation will be.
