One of many articles (with a bunch or poor information) concerning my job going away. The numbers in this article are inflated across the board, both in terms of employees and average annual income.

Regardless, I'll be out of work very soon. My job search will begin once I learn when/how this will all come down. The liberal media here in Oregon is pushing this, it's a big deal for the county. We are currently scheduled to have formal meetings next Wed/Thurs, but with the high profile locally, these may be pushed forward.

I work a midnight shift, and the strongest rumor is that these shifts will be eliminated first (August 1st) and the remaining product run out of the factory on a 12 hour day shift schedule. The next most prolific rumor concerns severance packages and what they might consist of.

The original 'scoop' is here http://www.registerguard.com/csp/cms/sites/dt.cms.support.viewStory.cls?cid=124946&sid=1&fid=1

I'd appreciate your prayers, good thoughts, karma bullets or whatever...

Bummer, man. I've went through this twice in the last year and the current job is scheduled to end in Sept. of '09, so I know how it is. Hope everything works out...

Sorry to hear about that. Hope everything works out for you. I kinda know what you are going through. About 13 years ago the shop I worked at closed up and the boss didn't tell us until the end of the last day we were open. Good luck on your future.

That is without a doubt, the most asinine thing I believe I have seen posted anywhere. It ranks right up there with telling someone with prostate cancer 'it's all over but the nut cutting'.

8O 8O 8O 8O

Now why in the hell would you go and make a dumbass insulting and insensitive wisecrack like that to him when the guy is about to lose his job??

Oh wait - the concept of maintaining full-time legitimate employment is pretty much unknown to you...huh fulla? FFS...that was way out of line.

:signimsorry Hang in there nukeday...we're all pullin' for you. I know it sucks man - but hopefully something will turn up for you real soon. Keep your head up.

I feel for you. The damn city council re-zoned me out of business as of May of this year. I'm doing OK working on the sly for now - and I'm fixing up my house to sell and moving as soon as I can to somewhere out in the country where I can do as I damn well please.

I think the hotdog remark was a little toung in cheek. I do have friends of a certain religion that keep a years worth of food in there house. I always thought that was a good thing. I think I might have two weeks.

How did they rezone you out of business? I would think the current businesses would be exempt from that. A grandfather type thing.... I would think all the people that have a business would sue them. I don't like the suing thing, but sometimes it is the only way. Good luck on working things out...

It really sucks when people get the shaft!!!! Big Business does not look like they care about their employees. Too many of us have been there(me too) Makes me want to find all of them a B!@#h Slap every one of them and ask how does it feel.

I don't mean any offense to anyone, the sorry folks that ran ENRON deserve what they got and. Ken Lay should have lived to spend many years in jail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went through a similar thing several years before ENRON, and no one went to jail or anything done... I have story's from the inside.... Sorry about that rant.....

I wish everyone has good luck with all these things life throws at them. Keep on Truckin'

Richard

The only constant is change, right? I'm not exactly devastated, yet. We have employee meetings today and tomorrow, I'll try to give an update when I have a better idea what's going to happen and when. Semicondutor companies have traditionally given very generous severance/compensation packages, but I'm not going to presume that will be the case here.

I'm hoping to have a month or two grace period, with the financial means to nearly maintain our current lifestyle. We've modified some of the peripherals already (insurance, cable TV package, where we buy gas, etc.) and just waiting on the blow.

I think I have some marketable skills, the big issue right now is the glut of people looking for positions.
We'll get through it.

Anyone have a big freezer for sale?

I live in one of the better neighborhoods in the county and I ran a home based business for years.

Then some big developers started buying up all of the property up on the hill where I live because of it's location and the view and soon they were blasting away and clearing all of the trees to build condos, apartments and duplexes. Next they started buying up all the classic older homes and knocking them down except for one wall and rebuilding them into ugly modern more expensive homes. (They left the one wall up because of the less strict rules applied to a "remodel" instead of a new build.)

Then they got themselves voted in on the city council, appointed freinds to the planning and zoning offices - and started re-zoning everything to make their property values climb. That has more than tripled my property taxes in the last 5 years, and forced a lot of older retired folks on a fixed income to sell their homes and leave.

The only good to come out of any of this is my house that I bought for $68,000.00 16 years ago is now worth approximately $160,000.00 due to all of this and a complete remodel that I've only spent about $15,00.00 on that I've been slowly doing.

I'm still running my business on the sly and the wife just got a promotion and a raise - so I guess since for the first time in 20 years she's now making more $$ than me - temporarily untill we sell and relocate, that makes me her bitch....lol

And nukeday - you can borrow my freezer if you want. But first we should probably go thank the thoughtful genius that made that suggestion in person.

Hang in there man. Same thing happened to me when Tyco bought Praegitzer. We manufactured circuit boards. Making money and they still shut us down. We got a good severance package though, and at the job I have now, that I never would've gotten into, I make a lot more money.
So you never know, hopefully it will be a good thing for you like it was for me.

Hey man, not cool... If you have kids (which is something one wonders you capable of) let'em know that you have a brain, and think BEFORE YOU POST! It's on the internet, and everyone knows...
Sir, if you'd just take some time to get your head out of your anus, the world may actually pay attention to you. It will take a while until your head ceases to smell like $#!7, but it will be worth it. Grow a pair, grow up, then come back. Maybe apologize (nukeday would appreciate it). That'd be a new one for ya.
May you eat franks and beans. If you can get any.

Give it a rest. Quit beating that dead horse. Say something positive to nukeday. Be a man and get off your high horse, slamming someone gets old. If you don't like it, don't read it. I think everyone else made the counter posts is enough.

He may have left because of this. We don't need to run off anyone because they may have made a incorrect or stupid post.
