This ideal was brought to me courtesy of a GE repairman. I was talking of getting my truck painted but I was concerned of the cost. He told me of being stationed in San Diego and sailors taking their autos south to Mexico and getting exceptional work. Shops cost less and glad to get the work/money. However that part of the border is too far away for me. Texas border is closer. Anyone familiar with auto shops across the border in Mexico? Laredo area?

It'd be cheaper to just get it painted in Arkansas when you consider gas and drive time.

what kind of budget are you on? I can gurantee that down in mexico they will put a LOT of filler on the body. they are like sculptors down there, they dont pull dents, they putty over them and recreate that smashed in body line. I'd get it done up here

foose smears bondo all over the Overhaulin' cars/trucks or is his stuff different? Honest question. Of course Foose could do it..I think I heard him say 70$/hour. Now about the Mexican body works,,,,I could eat tacos and drink the water till I get Zooma's revenge while I wait for the paint to dry. Anyway the GE guy was pleased with their work in TJ, Mexico.

Well, I am thinkin if you took your ride down there, and it was beat to hell, then maybe if your not gonna pay to have the stuff beat out, then you might get a ton of bondo. As far as what chip does on overhaulin, he isnt filling in big ass dents. He is just putting a thin layer, to smooth stuff out. I pretty much did the same to my truck when we painted it. Just enough to get a smooth finish.

lets see what ur GE guy says about how long it takes before the paint starts fading. 2-3 years is the best I've seen and thats with regular buffing and waxing.

I would pay the extra money and support the jobs here.

Well I sort of already supported the locals. The local sheriff department in Farmerville,LA. About the paint it was and still is original but back then when he asked what color it was as he filled out the ticket. He said is that brown or tan or what?. I said it's brown on the title but I wanted to tell him it was really baby shit brown. That color will change when the 4.3 goes in.
