Whats the deal with the steam holes in the chevy 400 heads? I have a 327 that has better heads on it than my 400 does and now I think I am going to be putting my 400 in my LUV but I want to use the heads that are on my 327 since it has the 2.02 exhaust valves and the screw in studs. What do I have to do to use my 327 heads?

put a 400 head gasket on it and use a punch to mark it and drill it. use a drill press if you have one but you can do it with a hand drill yourself just fine. you dont have to drilll them out but the truck will probably overheat if you don't

Hey Derek I sold my 400 with my race car to Duane at one stop he put a crank in it and freshened it up again after I only put 16 laps on it. The new shasta speedway rules say "NO 400s!!!" So duane wants my 327 to run in my old race car. I talked to him yesterday and after I told him I want the heads that are on my 327 he back peddled a little bit. He likes to stretch things out and take his time. I told him my 327 is going in pretty soon to make the april meet so he better make up his mind and get the ball rolling or he is going to lose out. I really hope he can make up his mind and give my 400 back like by monday or something because I would really rather have the 400. In one of my other post I responded back to in I said if you arent doing anything tomorrow Im going to be working on my truck if you want to stop by I still need to get that 283 seperated from the tranny and if the weather is nice I am going to be mucking out the engine compartment and getting it ready. My brothers suburban has a 350 in it. Also my brother asked me if you want to trade your barn doors for his tailgait set up. I told him I didnt know if you would or not but I would ask you anyway.

Right on! I didn't get your message till today.. I bet you're having fun playing in the grease that 283 left behind. Man the weekends go by too quick! Tell your bro im keeing my barn doors, I just dont have the time to mess with a swap, otherwise I might lol Hey I went out to pick and peel and saw that LUV, it's a genie mint 79, they want 999 for it, and it's straight as an arrow, this thing looks really good, like it was just sitting maybe, lots of good stuff on it... Wonder when it will hit the yard, i doubt it will sell. It has a perfect frontend but it's a 2 lamp setup.

I didnt figure you wanted to change the doors around but my brother mentioned asking you about it so I did pretty much just to make him happy. I dont know if I am going to get my 400 back or not if I do it probably wont be in time for april. Which reminds me I was doing some header measurements trying to figure out if a couple pairs a friend of mine has will fit in my truck. One of my ram horns is cracked almost all the way around so I figured headers is my new option. for the first time I really wish I had one of those mock up blocks. I hope I stop running into problems or else I might not be ready for april. I got most of the grime out of the engine compartment so far I have scraped and hit it with degreaser 2 times and its still has some nasty crap stuck to it.

Well if it's any help Gabe I have 5 blocks, if you need to borrow one for muckup. I also have a set of like new Hooker super comp headers (the ones for a LUV truck) I might part with, but I paid $300 for them with the shipping. Did you ever figure out that motor mount setup? You could just get a set of those block hugger shorties pretty cheap, I think you can get a cheapie set for around $60 mailorder.

I dont know what I am going to do with the 400. I might just have screw in studs put in the heads that are on it now. Too much going on and not enough time.
