can anyone tell me if the wiring harness from the 78 mikado with 1.8 will work on a 72 1.8 or if there were any significant changes that would prevent me from using it. i'm also curious as to any aftermarket suppliers for these trucks. would like to put a mild drop kit on the 72 after i fit the v-6 in there. please feel free to email me with any suggestions, rmanaseri@d11.uscg.mil

There were quite a few changes to the setup from a 72 to a 78. From simple stuff like a 78 having only two headlights, to more complicated stuff like location and setup of engine harness points. If you are dropping a V6 in there, that would eliminate a lot of the problems on the engine side of things, but you'd still have a few issues to deal with. I would not expect anything too complex, and if the 72 has at least some harness in it you could adapt the few problem items into the 78 wiring.

There isn't much aftermarket for LUVs. There is no drop kit, but it is simple to just crank down the torsion bars in the front and stick a standard lowering block in the rear.
