I just scored a low mileage 350 short block casting number 3970010 that is bored 30 over, along with a set of heads casting numbers 462624. The cylinder walls have a few odd looking spots on them. With your finger they feel smooth and there is no ridge on the top of them, but they don't look right. The look like corroded spots and/or blued spots. Should I be concerned about these or should I just give it a quick hone and freshen it up and run it? Is there a website or book with some pics of how to assess these spots. It's going into an otherwise stock '84 Z-28 for a daily driver.

I would say maybe hot spots??? I would think if your not gonna put a whole bunch into this motor, then a hone job should be sufficient. my .02
